Job: Part-time Organist/Pianist

Our long time organist will be leaving us in April 2015. We wish her and her family well on their upcoming
move.
This leaves us looking for a part-time Organist/Pianist to play during worship service on Sundays at 10:00
a.m. and special programs throughout the year.

Candidates of all faiths/denominations are welcome to apply.
Local candidates are preferred and prior church music experience is a plus.

Ideally, this individual will seek to be an active member of the church, though we realize one must get a feel
for the church before joining and refusal to join will not be grounds for dismissal.

Responsibilities:
Lead the congregation through playing of the organ/piano at all services, both regular and special, which
typically include a prelude of 4-7 minutes, 4 or 5 hymns, music during Communion, and a postlude.

Play during “High Holy Days” (e.g., Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Easter Sunday, and
other special services).

Able to read and play music of moderate difficulty by sight and of greater difficulty with ample practice.

Ability and appreciation of wide range of styles including Christian classics (hymns) and contemporary
music.

Make reasonable effort to schedule time off at least two weeks in advance with the ministry leader.

Provide recommendations and insights into how to improve the overall music program of the church.

Maintain weekly communication with office via email to receive music for the coming week and to recruit
and prepare substitutes to perform during absences, in consultation with office staff.

Provide input on the condition of the church’s musical instruments so that appropriate maintenance and
repairs can be arranged.
Additional Opportunities:
Music for services outside of regular services (weddings, funerals, etc.) are not part of the responsibility
but our Organist has first right to play and be compensated for services booked at Christ Church

With approval of the Vestry, coordinate with/invite local musicians and/or vocalists to enrich services.

With approval of the Vestry, our instruments may be used to provide private lessons.
Compensation:
Starting salary is $50/service during 6-month probation period, increases commensurate with experience
and skills, subject to annual review.
